Oxnard School District: Single or Multi-Track Calendar

/

Oxnard SD had to determine if the decline was great enough to warrant moving to a single-track year-round calendar

BACKGROUND

Oxnard School District is a Pre-K through 8th grade district that has been on a four-track, multi-year calendar for several years.

CHALLENGE

After experiencing a decline in enrollment in recent years, the District had to determine if the decline was great enough to warrant moving to a single-track year-round calendar.

SOLUTION

Using The DI System, Oxnard School District was able to create different calendar scenarios for the advisory committee, school board and district office. The District also relies on DecisionInsite to provide enrollment projections for EL Academy, Gate Academy and Special Day Academies by adding several attributes to their student plot page. This ensures they will have enough teachers to handle the needs at each school.

RESULT

After reviewing each scenario, the District decided to move to a single-track year-round calendar. With enrollment continuing to decline, they plan to review the boundaries of the entire district in 2008—a process that is made much simpler by The DI System’s street-level access to the numbers of students in each grade. Oxnard School District has been able respond quickly to its declining enrollment challenges with help from DecisionInsite and The DI System.

“The DI System has brought us a long way from moving geo-codes street by street by hand.”
