Bristol Township School District: School Consolidation & Modernization

/

Bristol Township SD knew that they needed to make a case to the community that was backed by solid data.  The district knew they needed to be prepared to answer questions relating to capacities, future enrollments, future boundary changes and the financial impacts of such a change with clarity, accuracy and sensitivity and turned to DI to help find the data and make that case.

BACKGROUND

Bristol Township School District, located in Eastern Pennsylvania, was facing increasing building maintenance costs and school capacity challenges.   District leaders formulated a long-range plan to consolidate nine elementary school sites into three, new, state-of-the-art campuses.

CHALLENGE

School consolidation is a very sensitive issue in every community.  Bristol Township’s district leaders knew that they needed to make a case to the community that was backed by solid data.  The district knew they needed to be prepared to answer questions relating to capacities, future enrollments, future boundary changes and the financial impacts of such a change with clarity, accuracy and sensitivity.  District leadership also knew that if they did not act, the district would be required to devote more and more resources into maintaining old structures.  Additionally, a change in the PA state law meant that the master planning process needed to be completed in a very short time-frame.
